Laboratory Study on CR/SBS Modified Asphalt: Preparation and Performance Characterization

Crumble rubber (CR) can be used to prepare CR and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) composite modified asphalt with a good high-and low-temperature performance, meanwhile the addition of could work as substitute for SBS help reduce content SBS. This study contains three main parts: effect preparation material composition well rheological performance characterization. Factors during preparation, including shearing temperature, time, mixing time swelling were selected, while base binder, content, particle size in considered. The effects these factors assessed terms conventional (penetration, softening point, ductility storage stability). After identifying effects, sample at selected preparing condition (CR/SBSMA) was made, corresponding (SBSMA CRMA) produced comparing reason. Subsequently, temperature sweeps from 0°C 80°C utilized depict viscoelasticity binders by complex modulus phase angle. Multiple stress creep recovery tests (MSCR) 64°C bending beam rheometer (BBR) various low temperatures employed evaluate respectively. Results highlight that CR/SBSMA exhibit an excellent high-temperature (better than SBSMA), (reaching level binder).
